“We both come from West Indian backgrounds. We grew up here. The reggae flavours we incorporated, things that are industry standard like rewinds—we created that at Marshgate Lane. We said, ‘Tell ‘em stop the tune. Rewind it.”— An extract from All Crews, a book delving into the history of jungle, including Bret’s (Telepathy co-founder) views on the emergence of Jungle & DnB in London and introducing rewinds to the culture.
Highlighting some of the most crucial players in UK rave culture w/@wildlifearchive, brings us onto Telepathy, a rave that branched out from acid house and made a name for itself in the 90s Jungle scene through it’s Jamaican roots and banging sound systems. Fabio, Grooverider, Kenny Ken and DJ Randall, all Telepathy day one residents, with the likes of Andy C and Nicky Blackmarket making an appearance later. All playing alongside renowned MC’s, The Ragga Twins, Det, Navigator, 5ive 0, Mosse not forgetting resident MC Stevie Hyper D (R.I.P).

Wendy Carlos transitioned at about the same time she finished the soundtrack for of Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange. Her Moog score for it is awesome and ominous with synthesized versions of classical compositions by Beethoven, Purcell and Rossini. They are probably all rolling in their graves. Especially Beethoven. (Via @fourthree.boilerroom.tv )

“Last year at our pride after-party, we had protesters outside the club...” tells Shade’s founder Lindsay @ligrye , “If you got to the parade, it’s actually the most amount of protesters I’ve seen in my life”. Seoul’s leading LGBTQIA collective Shade, explain the unlawful challenges they face stemming from the fact that South Korea is a predominantly conservative country. “The new president said that he was opposing to the term queer as well as gay marriage, so we felt the need to be united more”, expresses @shadeseoul organiser Julian @netgala . •
Dedicated to building a safe place for the LGBTQIA community, the collective brings together local queer DJs, artists, musicians and drag queens and by origins in ballroom culture, the parties will never tied to just one genre. “You can play whatever music that you want - just make it popping and express the thing you want to express in your music” Julian continues.
The collective has also started out a new party called “Femme”, which aims to push female and non-binary representation within Seoul’s scene. Recent guests include @kraejiyaeji , @kimannfoxman , @coucouchloe as well as local residents Ligrye, Net Gala, Seesea.
