I am SO excited to announce that this month’s New Breed event will feature the incredible, Emma Osborne: @emmanigma_
Emma is an astrophysicist and award winning science communicator. She has an incredible gift for explaining some of Einstein’s most complex theories in ways that any of us can understand!
On Thursday 26 July we are really lucky to have Emma chatting through Gravitational Waves; what they are, how we detect them and what they mean for our understanding of the universe. Don’t panic - you don’t need to be a science whizz for this talk, it’s all about learning something new and Emma will be breaking everything down for us 😀
This is a fantastic opportunity to talk with someone right in the heart of life-changing discovery and I can think of nobody better to show you what amazing things you can do in the world of physics and mathematics 🤘
It’s going to be a good one and Emma’s events are always popular, so if you’re interested in learning more or just fancy a night out with something a little different, you’ll need to be quick!
Tickets will be available shortly on Facebook and www.new-breed.co.uk
"Begin the easily escapable, unnecessarily slow-moving dipping mechanism" - Dr. Evil. Operating the depth-stop on my heat-set press. This rig inserts nuts into #3Dprinted designs. The spring-loaded mechanism quickly lifts the carriage when you’re done. I'm still wondering how to make this better. #fusion360#madeinvancouver
Argh pretty sure I psyched myself out and over prepared with crap I didn't even need to know! Got in the interview and the questions were so basic that it kinda baffled me 😩Don't think it went particularly well but fingers crossed! 🤷🏼♀️ #science#stem#stemgirls
Kids love collecting. Some campers have kept their collection from last summer and are wearing them to camp this summer. Some are have started their collection fresh this summer like this camper. #collecting#trustinkids
#tbt to when CEdO LaTanya McDade joined bright, passionate women ready to excel in the world of #STEM. They are a testament to our future, and proof that gender, background, or any other obstacle should never prevent you from following your dreams. 💫 #Exelon#heforshe
#tbt Before the final exams, I had a pleasure to participate in a motivational workshop led by Sophie, organised by @jesswhoblog and @bumble_uk. We have been crashing all those nasty “can’ts” in our heads 🔨 and I have to say it made me question so many things I used to believe in just because someone said it to be true. 🤷🏼♀️ Someone with more authority or more power... but very often it appears that those silly little phrases such as “you are too young” or “you won’t have time for this” ⏳ stay with us unchanged for much longer than we would expect. ➖
It’s vital to sit down from time to time and consider all our everyday beliefs (and I’m not talking about gravity or other scientific topics😁) and think really hard - is that true? 🤔Is it really what I believe in or is it something I should consider again giving it my fully own meaning? I very much encourage you to question yourself for at least one day and notice the little changes in your perception of the world afterwards. The person to contact 📞 if you would like to learn more details on boosting your self-esteem, work-life balance and entrepreneurial power of women is @sophiefrenchcreative 💕She is also a NLP practitioner. By the way have you ever heard of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming)? 🤓
During my session I blind-picked a card which said “Interrupt anxiety with gratitude” and I have to say it’s something I’ve been working on for a while now. I like to keep myself busy so I do many activities outside studying routines... but every now and then when I see the results of my work I’m not happy. I’m noticing the imperfections or thinking I should have dedicated more time to it. I forget to relax, pat myself on the back and be grateful that I managed to do so many absolutely amazing things with soooo manyyy great people, who I would have never met if I stuck with the safer version of doing one thing at the time. ➖
Final message: If you’re in higher education and struggle with mental health, visit @ph_d_epression account, this amazing community is 5ppl short from reaching 3,000 followers and they deserve to be noticed! I’m not suffering from depression myself but I fully support their actions! 💙

Hey! I want to raise awareness of a fish disease caused by mycobacterium. It is known as Fish Tuberculosis (TB)! This is a nasty bug that sometimes infect aquariums. And it is something that a human can catch too, though, not as severe are regular TB. Some of the signs and symptoms of fish TB are:
Protruding or sunken eyes
Poor body condition like wasting away or fin rot, and the distinctive crooked spine
Fish TB is almost always incurable. The best way to handle infected fish is quarantine, use both internal and external broad spectrum meds, and minimize stress in the fish. Aquarists should be careful when changing the water in a tank that has a history of TB. TB can enter though an open cut and infect the immunocompromised person. If you have a cut, avoid changing the water or use waterproof gloves. Wash your hands thoroughly! Especially under the nails! I am a compulsive washer and after waterchanges I wash my hands and forearms 3 times and hand sanitize 3 times

Conservation starts with education! The SIMA Environmental Fund is proud to support @ocean_institute . Their grant will help provide the program’s ocean research excursions so each fifth grader can experience the ocean first-hand. This is a highlight of the Watershed Program that inspires the students to become ocean stewards.
Join us on August 4th at The Ranch at Laguna Beach for the 29th annual Waterman’s. All proceeds from Waterman’s will benefit @ocean_institute and the 14 other beneficiaries of the SIMA Environmental Fund.

This Martian surface observation was suggested by students at the Mars Academy in Brazil. Here is their original rationale: “This “stressed-out” region of the northeastern slopes of Pavonis Mons contains multiple sets of sub-parallel faults, with down-thrown blocks indicating tensional stretching of the crustal layers. We wish to examine a couple of these features in detail using HiRISE images, in order to address several questions, including: Do the sizes/extent of these fractures correlate with slope breaks or apparent mineralogical changes? Are these tectonic/volcanic features, or could they be more reflective of surface processes? Are the fractures topographic lows (i.e., ditches) that have accumulated mass wasting products and/or demonstrate over-printing signs of fluvial erosion?” Anyone can request images taken by HiRISE for their own analysis at UAhirise.org/hiwish
