***POSTURE AND BACK PAIN*** Athletes, bodybuilders and many other individuals who go to the gym may spend a lot of time perfecting their form for the exercises they do! However, many overlook proper posture during the day to day activities, such as when sitting for prolonged periods of time.
People are surprised to learn that pressures on the vertebral discs are higher when sitting than when standing or lying down.
So can sitting create higher pressure between your intervertebral discs than standing? The answer is YES, because when you stand your body weight is distributed over many structures such as muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints. Once you sit down however, the abdominal muscles relax, which causes the majority of your body weight to be taken on by the discs. As mentioned earlier, you most likely won’t feel any pain at all when this happens, but in the long run, due to prolonged periods of sitting and poor posture it can results in multiple conditions from impinged nerve roots to degenerative osteoarthritis changes.

Well....the start to a great training cycle is being interrupted by weird feelings in my ankle. I was doing high skips on Monday and landed flat on my foot yet felt a weird twinge in my ankle. It didn’t continue to hurt so I kept it moving. During Tuesday’s run I felt something was off. This morning I work up at 5 and ran two blocks and everything seemed fine. I went to run some miles with the Fan Foxes, and I was good up until mile 2 ish. My Coach told me I shouldn’t push to run 5 and that I should skip hills tomorrow, so that’s what I’m going to do. I’m not going to Endurance Class tonight either, because it’s a ton of jumping and will put stress on it. Tomorrow morning I’ll sub rowing for running and Friday I’ll try and test it on a 10 min pace 2-3 miles. Saturday’s long run is up in the air....it’s still early and I’ll get through this!
>>If you don’t go through ups AND downs during marathon training...did you even try hard enough?<<
