Auguri socia, adesso come fra vent'anni, ti voglio bene.

The Bf-110 was a twin engine heavy fighter, the Germans named this class of planes “Zerstörer” which means “destroyer”. It also served as a fighter bomber, in German: “jagdbomber or for short “jabo”.
The Bf-110 was developed by Messerschmitt for the Nazis during the 1930s and Hermann Göring rather liked the Bf-110. It was armed with two automatic 20mm cannons, four 7,92mm machine guns and one 7,92mm machine gun as defensive armament.
The Bf-110 was used successfully during the Poland campaign, the Norwegian campaign and the Low Countries campaign, here it could attack the enemy fighters which were still in the ground and if the enemy fighters were airborne they could be attacked by diving on them since the Bf-110 had a high ceiling.
During the Battle of Britain the Bf-110 major disadvantage in comparison to the British Hawker Hurricanes and Supermarine Spitfires was it’s agility. The British fighters could out-turn the Bf-110 without any problems and the defensive armament of the Bf-110 wasn’t sufficient to defend it from British fighter on her tail. This resulted in heaven casualties for the Bf-110 squadrons.
After the major losses during the Battle of Britain the Bf-110 was used for all kinds of tasks. The Germans made a night fighter version, this was rather successful since here she could use her good offensive armament and speed plus she didn’t need her agility.
The Bf-110 remained in service with the Luftwaffe until the end of the war after which the Bf-110 retired.
