My healing truly began once I flowed along with the seasons.
In Ancient Chinese Medicine (Taoism), we use the summer months to open the heart and let the tight tissues soften.
Supported Fish Pose is one of my favorites.
Most of us breathe deeply into the chest and shoulders, triggering the fight or flight side of the autonomic nervous system. This pose uses gravity to help bring more space to the pecs, shoulders, and lungs.
Keep your heart lifted, breathe evenly and slowly, and let yourself go into the props beneath you. Start with a minute, move onto three, possibly more.
When you're ready to come out, plant your feet, pick a forearm to roll onto, come onto your side body to rest on the floor for a couple of breaths.
You don't have to have a bolster, you can roll a blanket and place that underneath your knees. This helps to take pressure off your low back.
You can always take your legs long with no support, or feet together with knees wide with our without support under your outer thighs.
This pose is more gentle if you use blankets: long rectangle under your shoulder blades, and a square or thicker under your skull.
There's also the two block option: tall block setting under your head, and medium setting, wide across your mat so it rests right at your bra line. This block must be in the "sweet spot" so make sure it's set just right. You'll know it's right because you won't feel any sharp sensation.

Beloved Guru Dharmaji @dharmayoganyc said something like this in one of the first ever classes I took with Him in His old Temple on 23&3rd. I will always remember those words and the incredible power they carry. We must always strive to practice ahimsa - compassion - also towards ourselves. We may not always succeed in all we want to do in life BUT we can always work on FORGIVING ourselves - and others - and do our very best to improve ourselves on all levels. As yogis we should always do our utmost to be the best people we possibly can and nurture harmony in words, thoughts and actions towards ourselves and the world🙇🙇🙇
