I have about eleventy-zillion singular tasks & 2 solid weeks of planning before I’m ready, but I can hardly WAIT to share with you the
If all goes according to plan, the first of August I will share with you the exciting new project I’ve been pouring my heart into! This is unlike anything I’ve done before and has taken up a lot of my time lately. Photographers, you’re going to want to see this! Comment below or send a DM if you want the details sent right to you as soon as they’re available! 💻
“I’ve worked with a web designer before and they didn’t get my vision right.”
I’ve heard this MANY times before. A lot of the time this happens, because we don’t know who our ideal audience is and we end up picking a designer who doesn’t match our vision style.
Yep, you read that right. Being crystal clear on who our ideal client is directly translates to how we communicate our vision.
This happened to me when I got my logo done the first time. I worked with a designer to help me create my logo. I LOVED her work and thought their work would be a perfect fit for the style I had in mind.
Once the project was through I realized shortly after it wasn’t the correct style for ME and my BRAND. I still love their work to this day, but it didn’t fit me and my brand.
I don’t see this as a waste of money or time either. I see it as a learning experience and that I needed to get clear on who I wanted to serve.
Why did it matter to be clear on who I want to serve?
When I knew I wanted to serve my audience my vision became more clear in how I wrote about my new brand to be.
I knew I wanted to work with women in their late-20s to mid-30s.
I knew I wanted to work with ambitious, generous, honest, and creative women who wanted to kick butt in their business and change the world while they did it.
This year when I found @theroutinecreative. I knew instantly in my gut that I wanted to work with him. His style and my style synced perfectly and he got my vision because I was clear on who I wanted to work with.
I really dove into finding out my ideal client late last year and this year and have to constantly remind myself who this person, because it is easy to forget.
So, if you’re struggling with getting your vision out of your head and onto paper, start with getting super clear on your ideal client.
What is their personality like?
What are their values?
Who do they love to follow on Instagram?
What do they struggle with in their business that you can help with?
Once you’re clear on this person, looking for the perfect web designer will be that much EASIER.
Are you clear on who your ideal client? Let me know in the comments ☺️

It is safe to say that Ashton is now back to her normal self after dental surgery on Monday. For those of you who knew, thank you for thinking of us on Monday! Ashton only remembers that the anesthesiologist made her mad, and she gained $5 from the tooth fairy! I feel like the going rate per tooth gets higher and higher every year. I only got $1 per tooth (if that)!
Sometimes it feels like you’re trying to rope everything together teasing out what’s important and what’s not. The news, our culture, everything is loud and telling you what you’re doing wrong.
I wanna share with you what I think you’re doing right and be the first to tell you that incorporating new best practices around diversity and equity isn’t actually all that tough. In fact, I’m gonna save you some steps. .
Sign up for our newsletter and be the first to have access to our 3-part video series coming to your inbox on Monday the 9th to kick off our launch!
And if you know a business owner friend that would love to have some community and a cheer squad around them as y’all walk this path to owning diverse and equitable businesses...tag them below!

Peony season is here you guys, let’s do this summer time! 🙌🏻🌞
Someone told me this morning how grateful they were that I shared the vulnerable spaces of my life and business amidst the wins. That it helped them feel more confident in their own ventures forward knowing they weren’t alone. In the moment, I was able to thank them for sharing that with me and later had the opportunity to really sit with that comment. It hit me that none of us knows what the hell we’re doing 100% of the time and we do ourselves a disservice by viewing folks on social media and thinking the opposite is true — that some folks have it truly figured out. .
I don’t know all the answers. I don’t know what this launch will look like. I have no idea what my idea of success is. Or even if this will be successful! But one thing I’m absolutely certain about is that if I DON’T do this — if I turn my back on my gut, on this opportunity to put my truest, most loving, empathetic, vulnerable, hopeful, encouraging self out into the world — I’ve lost. I don’t want to change your mind about political ideology. That means very little to me and is so not the agenda of this company. Simply put, I want to change the world. A tall order, I know. But I know in the deepest places of my heart, that honoring every human with dignity, equity and respect is the answer. And I am fully confident that if you take this leap of faith with me, if we grow alongside each other in this way, the world will change.
@radbusinessco is about connection. It’s about uncrossing wires and lifting masks and giving ourselves the space and permission to grow personally and professionally. I don’t know any other way to say it. This is it. I’m jumping and I’m hopeful that you’ll trust me and take this leap forward with me too. Let go with me and let’s see what happens. Show of hands: who *actually* takes care of themselves first?
It’s something I’ve always struggled with. My people pleaser mentality kicks into overdrive sometime and it’s all I can do to remember to eat lunch. But I learned an important lesson along the way that made SO much sense — and I’m sure it was said to me a million times in a million different ways — but for whatever reason it decided to sink in THAT time...
If I’m not well, I’m physically and mentally not able to show up and do the work I’m passionate about for the people that I care deeply about.
For the people in the back: YOU’VE GOTTA POUR INTO YOURSELF BEFORE YOU CAN POUR INTO OTHERS.
So, what are you willing to change up in your daily routine to soothe your body/mind/spirit so that the folks you want to give your best to actually feel served? For me, making morning quiet time for reading, writing and/or meditating a non-negotiable was key. I’m not saying it’s the elixir of life and keeps me running full steam ahead all day every day. But I definitely feel more grounded and better equipped to face whatever the universe sends my way. I’d love to hear what serves you best too! Photo by @aaron 🍩🍩🍩

Happy 5th birthday to my lovey, my babycakes, my wild child, Ashton Leigh! Mommy could write a novel about your 5 years of life, but I’ll spare Instagram today 😂. I’m so happy that God blessed me to be your mother and I’m very proud of you! 💕

Do you celebrate your small victories?
I used to not because I felt undeserving of praise. I was humble to a fault and couldn’t take a compliment. (Those childhood wounds run deep, y’all.)
It took me consistently celebrating the seemingly small things — like literally getting out of bed, putting clean clothes on, eating a square meal — for me to get comfortable celebrating the bigger moments — like booking a new wedding client or making big strides in therapy/self love.
Now, I throw fucking parties! I have kazoos in my desk that I use when I remember to eat lunch AND when I book fun clients. And y’all, it’s a blast!
Let me be your reminder that you’re worth allllll those celebratory moments. And let’s just say, here at @radbusinessco, once those doors open and we all start learning and growing...I’m gonna be playing the shit outta these kazoos. And confetti dance parties won’t just be for the weekend.
Let’s do the things, y’all. And celebrate every second of this journey.
Also, can I just tell you how enthusiastically pumped I am about our new RAD photos from @amyellisphoto?! 🎉🎉🎉

These two precious souls were married on Saturday in front of all their favorite people and it was just perfect. 💞💫
With this heat rising and rising it’s crazy to think it’s not even officially summer yet! 😦However, the spring & summer color pallets are my fave, so I can take the heat! 💁🏼♀️

I’ve gotta tell on myself real quick, y’all.
A couple days ago, in a bit of a snark attack, I commented on a local wedding-related Facebook ad that was super heteronormative and only talked to ‘brides’. Sometimes I get frustrated when I see those types of posts because REALLY what I feel is unseen, afraid and unworthy. “Hey, what about us, the queer kids?!” My mind immediately goes to, “I am not safe here.” But no less than 24 hours later I was feeling torn up. “The person that created that post doesn’t know what they don’t know, Alex.”
And that is okay. Because we all have things we don’t know.
They replied to my comment but (I think) deleted the ad so I wasn’t able to see the response in time. And it dawned on me — this is not what I want from @radbusinessco. I don’t want the conversations to just end abruptly because I was too snarky with someone and left no room for learning and growth. This work is more important than that. And it takes safety, encouragement and grace for any sort of progress to be made.
So, I’m telling on myself. Not because I’m not allowed to feel the feelings I felt when I saw that post but in how I handled the release of those feelings. It’s always worth a dialogue. It’s always worth the time it takes to have an actual, human conversation with someone about how things could be worded differently or approached in a new way.
And we will grow. And I’ll be right there with you learning from the best of the best. Space will be given for everyone to learn and shift. And diversity and equity trained professional moderators will be present during our live content sessions and trainings so that the conversations remain healthy, productive and inclusive. Yes, you will be encouraged to expand beyond your pre-conceived limits and notions. But you’ll be given the space to do so.
Are you ready to grow with @radbusinessco? (📸: @jenamillerco via @amberibarreche)
We’re having a hashtag party today and would love to hear from YOU! We’ve had our tried and true hashtags on rotate for awhile but we’re looking to mix it up and find some new ones to follow. Do you have any favorites? Drop us a comment below!

“And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.” 🌿🌞🌷

How long has your story been in the making?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Tell it when it is time.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Last week, we lost people that were household names, to suicide.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Why does life have to be so hard sometimes?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I felt alone for a long time. Was uninvited many times. I didn't know why I was here. I prayed. I cried. I waited. Then after 14 years, God moved. 14 years seems like a long time. It was!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I am so thankful for God's grace, because now I have an amazing story to tell. Some of it I can't even tell yet.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Someday. But, now I have my strength back. I want to make a difference, since I was given a second chance.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What difference can you make today. Small ones totally count!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you ever feel alone and that your story sucks, DM me. I know what that feels like.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Happy Monday, and there’s a new blog post up today! She recently delivered her healthy baby boy! Link in profile. 💕
Hey photographers! My specialty is senior photos, but I also love helping you succeed! I know what it was like for me, just starting out, and trying to absorb as much information as I possibly could. I would take the courses, and buy the templates, and read the blogs, and just do anything I could to figure out the business side of photography.
I get it! Running a business is tough! Especially if you are trying to do it all on your own. So let's be friends, and do this together!
I have been busy building a place on my website just for photographers, filled with free downloads, educational blogs, podcast episodes, and courses. And more are being added every month. Some of what you'll find cover things like:
• 5 things no one tells you about working from home
• Local Business Partnerships - my podcast interview with Nate Grahek, owner of StickyFolios
• How to set up your Senior Model Program for Success
Even more info, and more free downloads, get sent out to those who are on my email list!
You don't have to go through this journey alone. There are plenty of clients to go around, so let's lift each other up! I want to help you succeed!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Click the link in my profile, and go to the "for photographers" tab. Inside you'll find a bunch of free material, plus an invitation for you to join my email list. I'll see you there!
And hey, if you're not a photographer, we can still be friends! Follow my page @TaraGilesPhotography and tell me below how I can best help you - Family photos, Headshots, Community Blog Feature... I look forward to chatting!
