The question I get asked the most (behind what languages I know/use) is how I stayed motivated when learning to code. 🔹
The short answer: I didn’t.
The long answer: My motivation bottomed out about a month into it. But I kept going because I’d decided programming was what I was going to do. I made a promise to myself that I was going to be a programmer and I wasn’t willing to break it.
That’s not to say I didn’t have days where I didn’t code or spend time learning because I did. There were plenty of days where I didn’t show up because I didn’t want to, I got too down on my perceived lack of progress/ability, or something else had to be prioritized.
But ultimately, I spent more days consistently trying to learn than not.
If you don’t know how to stay motivated my advice to you is don’t rely on motivation. Instead, find ways to hold yourself accountable. Form a habit of coding everyday or multiple times a week. Shit happens and sometimes there are things you can’t control but when you’re able, get back at it.
Show up for yourself. You can do this. .

Last week was intense, I was working day and night with @brockofworld on finally finishing the BruxReleif app. This time I was building the dashboard page with custom charts. Getting data from firebase database and rendering it properly in 2 charts. Also getting and sending data to the BruxReleif device.
It was a hard week, but thankfully I managed to finish all that I had in plans. Now I have to do some design tweeks and the app will be published to both app and play store by the end of the month. I will keep you guys updated as I finish the app 😊
BruxRelief is an device which will help you detect and treat bruxism. You can preorder your BruxReleif device on bruxreleif.com
I would love to hear what are guys working on...
DevNOIR presents 30 days remote working in Thailand by @ptahdunbar! What an amazing discussion. @ptahdunbar gave us all the juicy details about being a traveling coder, meeting up with #blackpackers in Thailand, watching Black Panther for the first time with black travelers from all over the world, banking while being in Thailand, the Thai Baht, the massages, 24-hour coworking spaces, using the app Line (basically Yelp and UberEats combined), booking nice furnished penthouse suite for pennies, being surrounded by vegan options, every 3 months going on a Visa Runs, the golden temples, the awesome nightlife, the historical sites and many more!
I know you probably want to go to Thailand now! If you want to hear a snippet of this talk, comment below with a 🗣🗣 “Post that talk!”.
Also, there’s a story behind that eyepatch he wears! Ptah is a true pirate! DM him and ask him about it!
From left to right we have a Swedish, New Zealand, American, Korean and Dutch.

Purpose. That's what drives everyone who loves what they do. They have a purpose.
They are helping others and contributing to something bigger than themselves 😁🙌🏼
Give 10% more than you usually do on Monday.
You'd be surprised how energised you can feel after giving something a good go 👏🏼
This is what Mondays are made for.
Kickin' ass and taking names 😎
There's no stopping this rocket ship that's heading straight to space 🚀
So, I've been learning React a little while now. Don't actually know how long off the top of my head. I'm just over halfway through my course if that's any indication!? Anyway, I've had a few hang-ups with core React things, like components, props, state, and I guess just thinking the React way 🤔. I mean...I understood, but when it came time to write the code I found myself freezing and reverting back to examples, A LOT. It just didn't feel natural, you know?? But something happened tonight. I had a challenge, and somehow my brain knew exactly what to do. It just click! It was awesome.
I'll relish this feeling for now because I know soon enough I'm going to be left feeling like a noob again 😂. Moral of the story...What's confusing and unnatural now will be second nature tomorrow, you just got to keep going 👊. Happy Sunday!!
