i’m trying to go through my voice memos and other recordings to try to piece together the lineup purely based on what i already have. it’s difficult. i think that i have a very good basis for many of the songs, but as i’ve mentioned before, i’m retiring eighty percent of my old material for now. It’s difficult to just start from scratch and make entirely new material, but that’s what i’ve convinced myself to do. i’ve collected almost fifty voice memos all filled with different ideas for what to do with the songs on this album. chords, lyrics, melodies, harmonies, etc. it’s quite a bit. i’m not taking the approach i’ve taken in the past where i build a song from the ground up in the digital audio workspace. this album does not rely on instruments or effects created by computers. well, the reverb, but that’s because i can’t afford to go out and buy a huge plate reverb module. even so, i’m trying to make this album very natural. i am very satisfied with the lyrics that i’ve been writing. with many of my other projects, most of the lyrics mean nothing. they might work or sound cool, but they might as well be gibberish. this record is different. it’s personal, it’s narrative. i’m happy with the lyrical quality of the album. If i can connect fitting instrumentals and melodies to the lyrics, then i will have achieved my goal.
So I made a new website. Temporary domain is www.samuelkinsella.squarespace.com. Bet you can’t guess what service I used to make it. Anyway, the journal stuff is there, as well as info and all that, and eventually I’ll have CDs and such available there. Thank you for listening.
