‘’I watched him as he worked on some new projects while waiting. He and his assistant carefully combined the paint with powdered glass in a marble mortar, and painted the piece.’’ Read more about the piece “They Told Me Enamel Was Dead” on Doku Magazine.
Scroll to see full picture - This little gem was bought many years ago from a village fete, I believe it’s victorian, the picture made of enamel, in the original gilded frame. I have been told it may be Elizabeth greeting Mary, whatever it is I love its sensitive nature, the folds on the women’s robes, the taller of the two women compassionately consoling the other, it’s just a nice thing and striking in its simplicity #religious#sensitive#compassionate#antique#gilded#robes#enamel#vintagehome#instagram
For the history buff: an unusual and insanely awesome mourning ring of Sir Thomas Picton, who, on this day, died at the Battle of Waterloo in 1817 fighting against Napoleon under the command of the Duke of Wellington. This ring, which was likely worn by his wife, showcases a small old mine cut diamond, a snake ouroboros symbol depicting “infinity” or the cyclic nature of the universe, black enamel, traces of his hair, and fine engraving still easily readable on the 201st anniversary of his unfortunate death at battle. Swipe right to see this ring from all angles.
