Have you ever been scared? Really scared? Afraid you’re going to die scared? I have. It wasn’t when I had risky liver surgery. It wasn’t when I woke up from a coma. It wasn’t when I was on a vent. It wasn’t when I had to learn to walk again. It wasn’t when I continued to suffer from hepatic encephalopathy. So when was I scared? When I thought I was going to die because I was too poor to afford medicine. In America. In 2017. Despite what Senator Labrador says, Americans are dying everyday because they can’t afford proper healthcare. I’m lucky. I have friends & family that love & support me. Because of my inner circle, I’ve had access to free samples. Because of my husband, I’ve been able to get medicine from Canada. Because of Mayo Clinic I’ve had world class care. Not everyone has the team I have. Not everybody can pick up their phone and contact the people I can. I lay in bed at night & worry about the others. The people who aren’t me. The people who don’t have the network I do. The people that don’t have the support I have. The people that have to choose food or medicine or a mortgage payment. Those people. I can’t change your opinion on healthcare or politics or guns or abortion, but I can make you aware of the suffering and you alone can decide if you’re brave enough to do anything about it. Happy Friday!
Nature trumps (I used that word purposely) humanity. One of the two birds is either sick or can't fly. The other bird who can, came to help it out and keep it warm. Unless something miraculous happens, this is a metaphor for our current state of health care under Republican domination. I sincerely hope I will have a buddy to help me when I am down. #birdbuddies#healthcare2017
