Part of a story I recently worked on for @kpcc.
More than 160 non-citizens who were arrested by ICE during a three-day period of stepped-up enforcement.
Under S.B. 54 — the new California Values Act that took effect in January — requests by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to detain immigrants subject to deportation are not honored by local law enforcement officials, except in cases involving the most serious crimes. —
Proponents of the sanctuary policies argue that local cooperation with immigration agents shifts the burden of immigration enforcement to local government and erodes trust in the communities, leading to fewer witnesses of crimes stepping forward, for example.
Federal officials don't see it that way.
“The suggestion by some local law enforcement officials that ICE’s execution of its mission is undermining public safety by contributing to a decline in the reporting of certain types of crimes is frankly speculative and irresponsible,” said ICE spokeswoman Lori Haley.
Anook was offered a job at Gloria Jeans. The job promised good money and the prospect of working as a waiter was more appealing than switching between houses in the hot summer mornings to wash people’s cars. In his innocence, Anook started working at the famous cafe.
To his consternation, he learned that he wasn’t going to work as a waiter, instead he’d wash the dishes in the kitchen. But that didn’t bother him so much. After all, it was still a job at Gloria Jeans. After 4 days of washing huge amounts of tableware that was sent back into the kitchen at the day’s end, Anook was fired. The reason that they fired him was because he took a 5 minutes break from work.
Sadly, this is how the poor are treated in our beloved Pakistan.
Asexuality is (generally) defined as someone who has no sexual feelings or desires.
Aromantic is defined as people who don’t experience romantic attraction.
ALL asexuals and aromantics are REAL and VALID people. I don’t understand why anyone would ever have a problem with asexuality, since they’re literally doing nothing — literally doing no one.
You have something against those who don’t want to have sex or be in a relationship? Wait but I thought you had a problem with those who did 🤔
You only have a problem with people who aren’t heterosexual like you. Because you feel threatened and insecure, and you refuse to try to understand. You’re uncomfortable expressing your own sexuality, and yours is classed as the “default” worldwide. You stick your own nose into other people’s businesses and relationships and get annoyed at the things you’re not even apart of.
Asexuality is 100% normal. You don’t have to want sex or want a partner. Going through life only experiencing platonic love is perfectly normal and human. People who have a problem with asexuality or aromantics, think that life revolves around sex. Stop trying to tell other people who to be. You can’t change people for who they were born as.
All asexual and aromantic people have a forever spot in the LGBTQIA community. There’s no need for you to feel bad for not experiencing the feelings that other people do, you’re not broken, and you don’t need to try to fit in. Love and accept yourself for who you are, because you’re literally harming nobody, the haters are creating their own fantasy worlds full of problems they’ve made up in their own heads.
Keep being asexual/aromantic and be unapologetic about it 🖤🖤

I’ve been asked why I’ve been quiet on social media about the families being separated at the border and put into internment camps (let’s call it what it is). I have briefly paused speaking out on social media because, like so many of you, I’m outraged. And have been for awhile. Both about this particular human rights violation, and so many other injustices that this administration has enacted to oppress and cause pain and suffering, especially to those already the most marginalized. What is happening in our country is traumatic, and it is triggering. I am triggered, and that is why I’ve been quiet (on this forum, at least). Because when I’m triggered I get reactive, and when I’m reactive I will meet hate with hate and fear with fear. Participating in the very behaviors I want to see changed within our administration. Which is exactly what they wants from us. They want us overwhelmed, emotionally deregulated and enraged. I have no doubt their intention is to fatigue us into submission or excite us into impulsive actions that proves our collective instability. It’s hard, but I don’t want to play into that. If I go on social media and rant emotionally without purpose, the platform then is only in service to my big feelings (which for some is exactly the way it should and can be used), for me though, it would be an indulgent misuse of my voice. So I’ve taken a necessary breath and have been listening, learning and processing my emotions this past week within my own inner network, so that when I do speak up, whether it is teaching a public class or posting on social media, I am grounded, informed and purposeful in my message. Social media is an incredible tool, but it can also be a weapon, one that I want to use as responsibly as possible, especially when so many lives are at stake. My best offering right now is to provide education about how to step into proactive and conscious leadership. Victims of child trafficking can be used and abused over and over. A $32 billion-a-year industry? Human trafficking is on the rise and is found in all 50 states. Up to 300,000 children are sold in the sex trade each year in the US. #BABE

This morning, I read Seane Corn's latest social media post. My friend commented on the separation of families by the Trump administration at the border, and being put into internment camps. Like her, I am furious over what is happening out there. This is one of the biggest human rights violation, and the people behind it thought it was funny.
Seane also made a point that this administration and their followers thrive from our quick reaction to this injustice. So, rather than react (rightfully so. Don't you dare apologize for caring) in times where life is out of focus, I'm going to return to the basics of life: Breathing. There's no life if stop breathing.
Take an long inhale, rightfully angry reader. Breathe out steadily through nose or mouth. Again, inhale long. Breathe out long as if all the pain and personal anguish is being given the exit they deserve.
Process your emotions now, take your time gathering yourself and then, only then, can you speak with grace and purpose against the evil which plagues our planet. Once you're grounded, informed and purposeful in your message/social justice like Seane said, no one can defeat you.

The guys at #Rizla may have somewhat missed the mark with their most recent venture into political activism, their new ‘feminist’ rizla. While the hot pink packaging is undeniably highly chic, other than the very obvious Virginia Woolf reference, there doesn’t seem to be anything to denote these Rizlas as feminist whatsoever.
That noted, since buying said Rizla, us at the SFFF team have been experiencing breast tenderness and a new appreciation for perfumery and personal hygiene. We have contacted Rizla to ask if these side effects are indeed linked to their product.
We will let you know their response...

Drains to sea. Keep it clean if you know what I mean. When it rains it drains. Not just cigarette butts and plastic wrappers but chemicals. It’s supposed to be decaying leaves and stuff but we’ve changed that. Our parents generation changed that and the ones before. But, we can change the future. #clean#nature#humanrights#drainstoocean#environment

Feminism — ALL women. 🕊
Protect all of your sisters, not just your cis-ters.
I don’t care if this has been done in America before, I don’t care if it was done under democrats and being done now - under republicans. I learned about these inhuman acts this year and #America will never be called “great” ever again by any sane human of my generation.
Children are being placed in the government funded facilities, that have dozens of criminal cases of abuse, about 1500 children missing & they being forcibly injecting with psychotropic drugs to manage the trauma of being separated from their parents‼️‼️‼️ This is cruel & evil & those are straight forward disturbing signs of a #facsism & #rasism ‼️‼️‼️ Let’s face it, I don’t think any blue eyed child would ever be treated like that.
Even if this f-g government justifies the cruel #zerotolerance policy, why are they NOT detaining them TOGETHER???? Adults crossing the border illegally supposed to be sent to jail to await a prosecution and the children supposed to be WITH them. SO WHY AT LEAST DO NOT DETAIN THEM TOGETHER????? Why kids are forcibly being sent with strangers to strangers w/o anyone actually being responsible for them??? I’m opening my eyes to America’s cruel reality & I hope you do so too. Not for the sake of judgement, but for the sake of achieving critical amount of awakened people who know the truth. And that should become a point where trajectory of inhuman behaviour should change. #humanrights
