John Watson Jr. (February 3, 1935 – May 17, 1996), known professionally as Johnny "Guitar" Watson, was an American blues, soul, and funk musician and singer-songwriter. A flamboyant showman and electric guitarist in the style of T-Bone Walker, Watson recorded throughout the 1950s and 1960s with some success. His creative reinvention in the 1970s with funk overtones, saw Watson have hits with "Ain't That a Bitch", "I Need It" and "Superman Lover". His successful recording career spanned forty years, with his highest chart appearance being the 1977 song "A Real Mother For Ya".
Looking Back - a great old Johnny Guitar Watson song I have been working on today. I thought you might like it ... 😊 ***** Looking Back - ein großartiger Johnny Guitar Watson Song an dem ich heute gearbeitet habe. Ich dachte mir, dass er euch vielleicht gefällt ... 😊
"Johnny was an extraordinary entertainer.
There are many types of blues and Johhny was slick blues. He was up to date, talked about the government, and told the truth.
When I think of the nights him and I would sit at the bar together — he was sure something different.
You'd get your kicks seeing him live. It's sad he was never on TV. He was one that was worth seeing.
I'd put Johnny in a class like me — he told it like it is. That was Johhny Guitar Watson."
Johnny Guitar Watson / Funk Beyond The Call of Duty (1977) #texas bluesman reinvents himself into a self styled funkateer in the mid 1970s and proceeds to dish out a helping portion of slinky, fully fleshed out grooves for the pimped out bell-bottom crowd, delivering the goods with panache and a sense of humor. #funkbeyondthecallofduty isn’t necessarily his most potent work but still struts with plenty of swampy stank. the title track is in the #funkadelic mold, bragging about just how funky you can be with punchy slap bass in your face. “It’s All About The Dollar Bill” follows the same formula but changes the subject to the luscious love affair with loot cakes. Watson plays many of the instruments here including guitars, synths, organs, bass and percussion. “It’s A Damn Shame” is some filthy, lithe dirt to get down in. #johnnyguitarwatson#70sfunk#funk#vinyl#vinyligclub#vinyladdict#vinyljunkie#record#recordcollector#recordcollection#musicreview

Incredible, unforgettable to watch you shake your booty ooty to the ground
It"s awful nice. It"s Paradise
Why do you get up, while they get down
Everybody says you are cutie when you shake your booty ooty to the ground"
I am not a fan of instrumentals, but I am a fan of Johnny Guitar Watson. This 1967 album is titled Bad - The Fantastic Piano & Guitar of Johnny Watson. It is all instrumentals, jazzy and worth hearing. It is also rare and expensive, but essential if you are a fan of the man.
