Why do I say this ? The simple reason is that- by just being mindful of what we eat, we could not only save the lives but also help in stopping the deterioration of the health of other living beings, who we are meant to co-exist with.
When I read about the poultry and the dairy industry a couple of months back, i was quite upset. I just din't feel good when I was having my Indian chai or ate my favourite cake. And then, I decided to make a CHOICE.
Veganism isn't easy and accessible, yet its keeping me strong and committed because i know my reasons for doing so, is far more important than my unreasonable, unhealthy food indulgences and cravings. Infact at times I am guilty of consuming something by mistake because I am just not used to seeing the contents or checking the source of the item as a whole. .
I have been craving chocolates, cakes and ice-cream since weeks, after I decided to let go off dairy and eggs completely from my diet. But I am happy to share that I haven't let my cause down yet and have made peace with the gelato strawberry ice cream that I had in an Australian icecream corner yesterday at Ghent( which I had hated a week back when I tasted it for the first time at Constance.) and this delicious dark Belgian chocolate that you see here in the picture which is mixed along with the milk chocolates for Mayra - though she seems to love the dark ones more 😋. So we bought just an assorted pack which could go with the different preferences that we three have.
I ate mindlessly for the last 3 decades, is because I was absolutely unaware of what was the source of the food I consumed or you can say I never cared so much to actually go and find out. And I credit my mindlessness to unawareness and also self-centredness. But now that I am aware, I just can't ignore what I know and my conviction is just getting stronger by the day.
Do you think there is an insurmountable lack of awareness with respect to what we consume as food ? .

Last few months I have tried to change a lot of things in the way I live - Reducing / avoiding plastic as much as possible, living a minimalist life with bare minimum things ( though i still feel, I can get rid of a lot more) , and living sustainably by minimising waste and also eating clean to reduce my carbon footprint overall. And I keep looking for more information that would help me get closer to doing this more efficiently.

The more I delve into it, the more I feel drawn to the cause. The list of what a Vegan can't consume just gets longer with every new article I put my hands on. And let me tell you, the worst part is the food items that are most likely to be picked by a Vegan may also contain animal products - like chicken fat in barbecue chips, orange juices fortified with omega 3s and the wondered and breweries using membranes that come from tropical fish bladder.
