#prepent day 4
Change is never easy. What will be successful in getting us to change unhelpful habit, toxic behaviours, battle laziness, face what’s holding us back from who we want to be? What’s helpful in getting us to change our mind and walk our talk? I doubt that #Stephen Miller, responsible for meanest US gatekeeping immigration policies in a century, will change mind/policy post public rebuke by his uncle, naming him a hypocritical Jew ignoring his own family’s immigration history, in the viral article posted 2 days ago. Miller stands on the shoulders of midgets worldwide who keep closing the gates of freedom for selfish fear of the other. (Today's image: cartoon printed in Chicago magazine The Ram's Horn with Uncle Sam ‘welcoming’ Eastern European Jewish immigrant at a gate to the US in 1896.) Nor do I think that Miller will change his mind thanks to #Omarosa Manigault Newman whose new book is coming out today full of gossip+remorse. stunning self-interest aside she at least “chose to speak out..and repent for her complicity” as Michelle Goldberg wrote in the NYT yesterday, welcoming Omarosa to the resistance. What had helped you make changes happen in the past? What will it take this time?
It’s called Teshuva, Mr. Miller, Hebrew for ‘return’, ‘response’, or ‘Transformation’. It’s one of the best things Jews and many other moral people have perfected for generations, sometimes because of personal or public crisis, often because we are ultimately hardwired to keep growing - and to love - ourselves and others. Love enough to have the honesty to change. And it starts with a simple honest list.
#PREPENT2018 is Rabbi Amichai’s annual 40 day journey into the new year with daily reflections for returning to center. This year’s theme: “40 Gates of Return: daily thresholds into a more intentional and inspired new Jewish year”
1st Day of School=New Year! For us moms the start of school is like the start of a new year. Our routines, schedules, priorities and goals often change. I love working out 1st thing at 6:30am before my girls wake. But two years ago when my oldest started middle school her bus 🚌 pick up time was one hour earlier. I had to shift my workout to 5:30am. Now I am not a morning person but that was the time of day with the least distractions. This school year both my daughters have the same bus pick up! I will still do 5:30am workouts but then can start my day ( and part time job) at 7:45am. What changes will this new school year bring to you?

Pretty crazy to think these are our babies off to start another new school year as a senior, a Middle Schooler, and a 4th Grader. They aren’t babies anymore growing up so fast! Such a proud daddy over here! Everything I do is for my girls, they are my reason for existence, my entire world, and God Blessed us with 3 amazing individuals that couldn’t be more unique. 😭😭 #LoveMyGirls#NewYear#NewExperiences#NewTrials#NewTriumphs#GodIsGood#ProudParents#Blessed

There she goes, just like that, shes a freshman. My heart cant hardly take it.
Dont forget to pray today, for all students and all teachers. For the students who are nervous, lost, scared or new. For the students who lack self confidence and feel embarassed. The students who are bullied and the students who bully. Pray for your own child that they show someone Jesus this year. That they remain or become strong and upright and grow more in the Lord and less in the world. Every child will face trials this year, but we can pray that they are equipped to handle them. And that our daughters and sons walk in grace, today and every day.
I'm so infinitely proud of my baby sister. She took her key chain that her daddy gave her just a couple weeks before he died, and she has it with her today.
Let's declare this year will be a great year. Let's declare world changers this year!! Look out, highschool! Skyla has arrived!
