as an immigrant, this breaks my soul and heart in pieces.
we are so worried about the death of an abuser that we forget that there are children still separated from their parent(s) right now.
we forget their are children crying and begging to see their parent(s).
we forget that families are being ripped apart.
we forget that children are sleeping in freezing cold temperatures.
we forget to treat PEOPLE like PEOPLE.
i’m torn, i’m tired and i’m angry.
fuck trump, and fuck everyone behind the ideas of this vile piece of shit.
THIS HAS TO END, AND IT HAS TO END NOW.
Women voting and having rights, drinking and/or making/selling alcohol, interracial marriage, same sex marriage, opting out of serving in the military. MANY things in this country were illegal and are now legal. Using a law to justify the things America is doing is bullshit to me. Laws change all the time because humans change. Ethics change. Morals change. I don’t care too much about politics, but I do care about human rights and no law will change my mind. Delete me.

I am not one to speak up when it comes to politics but this is beyond politics. This is about children being ripped away from their families. It is disgusting and cruel and it is imperative that we make every move we can to abolish ICE. If you have a voice, use it. If you can help, try. This breaks my heart in so many ways. 💔 #keepfamiliestogether#abolishice#fucktrump#notmypresident
"From the earliest days of our history, this land has been a refuge for the oppressed and it is proper that we now, as descendants of refugees and immigrants, continue our long humanitarian tradition of helping those who are forced to flee to maintain their lives as individual, self-sufficient human beings in freedom, self-respect, dignity and health. It is, moreover, decidedly in the political interests of the United States that we maintain and continue to enhance our prestige and leadership in this respect."
- President John F. Kennedy
Today marks World Refugee Day. The United Nations has estimated that a total of around 69 million people across the globe are refugees, misplaced citizens fleeing from oppression and/or violence. There are so many fleeing war zones, areas where they are oppressed, and areas where there is no chance of success. I have found eight pictures, that will probably be "sensitive content" to Instagram. It shows truly what is happening. Now, just think of it. What type of person would deny refuge to dying babies? I know what kind: an evil person. The United States must maintain its leadership in the world and the only way to do that is to vote, remove the Republican Party from office. They have denied entrance to dying, bloody, Syrian babies and even locked poor children in cages. We MUST do more.

Call your representatives and senators. Donate time, supplies, money, anything. No matter your political stance this an obvious basic human rights violation in the most extreme sense. Use your privilege for good. 💔 #notmypresident
💔 It breaks my heart to see children being ripped apart from their families. It’s hard to swallow the fact that this is happening right here, under our noses. Perhaps people feel removed from it because they aren’t directly experiencing feelings of loss and suffering. The sad reality is that 1 out of every 100 people is a refugee. Last year alone, 68.5 million people were forcibly displaced. This issue is close to home - my mom, uncle, aunt, and grandparents were refugees at one point.
In 1972, under the reign of Idi Amin, over 60,000 Ugandan Indians were kicked out of the country they called home because of the color of their skin. My family was part of that group of refugees, who were given 90 days to leave the country. My grandpa helped friends withdraw savings from the bank while my grandma packed up the family albums and supplies for her newborn (one of 3 kids). They then moved to Pakistan then to London, staying in each for about 6 months before Canada accepted them as refugees.
You’d think that we would evolve and learn from history, but here we are in 2018 dealing with a vile, heartless president and his inhumane “zero-tolerance” policy that separates families. Apparently, @realdonaldtrump thinks it’s alright to separate an EIGHT MONTH OLD baby from their parents. Umm, what??! Sometimes I pinch myself to check if I’m in the middle of some dark & twisted nightmare. I’m not. This is reality, and at times I feel so useless, like I can’t do a single thing to make it better. Then I remind myself that there is always SOMETHING we can do -whether it’s doing more research, calling our senators, or simply engaging in conversations about all of this. People are people and should be treated as such. Lines, borders, divisions, fences. These are used as excuses to treat people inhumanely. We are all living beings, doing our best to live happy, meaningful lives as we zoom through the universe on this beautiful rock we call Earth. Refugees are HUMANS. Let’s start treating them like it.

You know what to do.
Trump’s “Zero Tolerance” doctrine of separating families of color has been seen before. By invoking government authority to put children in cages, Trump is a resurrection of our past: Southern slaveowners taking children from their enslaved parents; the U.S. government sending Native American children to boarding schools; and Japanese Americans being incarcerated in the 1940s because of their race #mcallen#nobannowall#immigration#notmypresident#impeachtrump
Pollo al sapore di porchetta: chicken thighs seasoned with #porchettasalt, lemons, garlic & herbs. Ready for the oven. And (swipe) quick-pickled onions on the side.
Recipe for #porchettasalt is in #PreservingItaly (p. 146). Onions are loosely based on a recipe from @thekitchn: pour boiling water over sliced onions, combine in jar with vinegar, sugar, salt, spices, garlic & herbs. Not pictured: fried fiori di zucca. Good #comfortfood for a rainy night.
Also, jeebus am I ever sick of the grifters and bigots and just plain cruel people running our country. Looking forward to November midterms. #votethemout#keepfamiliestogether#notmypresident
All proceeds from this tee will be donated to a fund set up by ActBlue. Donations will be split between 8 organizations that are fighting to protect families separated by ICE. Get more info on this tee + what else you can do to help in our stories. Keep fighting. #shopfiercely
President Trump your no tolerance policy on controlling immigration is cruelly inhumane. Families are separated and children are pried away from their parents then locked up in cages. The repercussions to the well-bring of these children and their families have long-lasting negative ramifications
America is a diverse nation built by immigrants and this is against its founding core beliefs. Although the outcry of the people may have influenced you now to resolve this, it has taken far too long
Let’s hope this is not just a short-sighted ‘2-day News event’ that will be forgotten but for many in America and the rest of the world to remember and progress from. .
