In search of the #SpiritofKnysna on the #Outeniqua#Trail.
As training in preparation for a 350km hike we did two stages of the OuteniquaTrail between the Millwood hut and the Diepvalle Hut, overnighting at the Rondebossie Hut.
It was a combination of 17km and 13.5km stages over the two days.
The first day was continual rain which despite being wrapped up in protective shells, exposed us to an aspect of the Knysna Forest that so many locals avoid.
There were many attractions, but the highlightwas without a doubt a sighting of three Honey Badgers walking up the trail towards us. In the rain they were oblivious of us until they were about 12 to 15m away, when they alarmed and scampered into the forest.
The second day was clear skies for the morning which was ideal for the ascent of Jokersberg for a panoramic view of the Garden Route.
in the Gouna section of the forest we found evidence of the renowned forest elephants in a glade of tree ferns.
"Please draw my brother @merrickbourke and his (now) wife Carine, on their roadtrip they did by motorbike. It’s a special one because she came all the way from Norway to do it – it’s when they realised they were serious about each other. He moved to Norway soon afterwards! Please include my family on a billboard along the highway. Just because he lives so far away, doesn’t mean he isn’t thought of or missed – we’re always thinking of him / watching over him. (Feel free to make up your own brand and have some fun). Please somehow include our doggos, I was thinking maybe patches on Merrick and Carine’s leather jacket, but maybe you’ll have a better idea. Please use the Outeniqua mountains as a background (we’re originally from George) and Aurora borealis (to represent Norway)." - pie_palooza 🚲 #nannacommish#outeniqua#Norway#commission#familyfirst#auroraborealis

Fietstoer bring hoop weer terug

🌺Outeniqua Mountains, George ~ South Africa🌺 The Outeniqua Mountains is a mountain range that runs a parallel to the southern coast of South Africa. The mountains form a continuous range with the Langeberg to the west and the Tsitsikamma Mountains to the east. The range comprises gentle southern slopes and steep drops on the north side down to the low valley Little Karoo. Highest points culminate at 1578 m (Cradock Peak) and at 1370 m (George Peak). ~~~ Outeniqua Mountains are made of Table Mountain Sandstone. Now remember, these sedimentary rocks were deposited in a sea, the ancient Agulhas Sea, ~ 500 Ma ago. At about 330 Ma, intense compressional tectonic forces originating from the south folded and uplifted these hard consolidated rocks into the Outeniqua, Kammanassie and Swartberg Mountains. Due to the strength of the forces, the Table Mountain sandstones of George and Cradock peak are actually overturned. #geology#science#outeniqua#southafrica
