Champ took his first real swim today. He was petrified to even walk towards the stairs once I put his life vest on, but we got him to one of the built in benches where he was able to stand with his head above water. We literally just sat there for like 10 minutes until I felt he was totally relaxed and ok with being in the water. Then we went for it. At first he nervously flopped all around splashing all over (I expected this, they all do it), then I grabbed him and held him still. He paddle in place and when he calmed down I let go. He definitely went back for the stairs but he swam all the way there on his own and without panicking. Not bad for a tripod’s first swim. His previous exposures had been onto the stairs and that was all. We would have continued but I’m not supposed to be swimming yet (post-op) - so we had to cut the lesson short.
