One of my hens and chicks in my hens and chicks garden is flowering. Sempervivums are monocarpic, meaning they only flower once and then they die. Its tragically beautiful, the "hen" makes sure they give off tons of "chicks" before they flower, so they can focus on producing a complex flower structure as one last hoorah before their death! 🌸💮

Anyone else struggle to choose their favourite? 🤷🏽♀️ #sundaysilly
Where was this when I (Lauren) was in high school, struggling with HORRIBLE acne, and being put on Accutane for the SECOND time 😱 Y’all, Accutane is the most dangerous acne medication prescribed. It’s disgusting. Nothing I used, absolutely NOTHING cleared up acne this quickly! Proof, right there. I’m so happy for her! You DON’T need nasty toxic chemicals on your face to get the results you desire! Many “popular” brands out there are doing your body and health more harm than good.
So, let’s talk about that for a quick sec, shall we?
Up to 50 million Americans struggle with acne, making it the most common skin disorder in the United States. And it’s not only teens who are affected; one in five U.S. adults also suffers from acne, and for them the psychological toll is often no less severe.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warns that the use of certain acne products containing the active ingredients benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid can cause rare but serious and potentially life-threatening allergic reactions or severe irritation.
FYI, Young Living’s Acne Cream’s “salicylic acid” is derived from Wintergreen, and also contains Manuka, Tea Tree, Frankincense, Lavender, Geranium, Rosemary, and Aloe Vera 🌿 #PlantDerived
The acne products the FDA is warns about are sold over-the-counter (OTC) and applied to the skin (topical). Their serious allergic reactions differ from the less harmful irritations already included in the product Drug Facts labels, which include burning, dryness, itching, peeling, redness, and slight swelling where the product is applied. “There is currently no mention of the possibility of these very severe allergic reactions on the product labels,” says Mona Khurana, M.D., a medical officer at FDA. “It’s important that consumers know about them, and that they know what to do if they occur.” Consumers can find out if an OTC topical acne product contains benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid by looking at the Active Ingredient(s) section of the Drug Facts label on the product package. *Continued In Comments*
Yesterday was a hard parenting day for me. A day that included tears, grace, forgiveness, thoughts I never thought I would have, and repentance. I found it hard to have empathy in the moments I needed to have it most. Trauma does not equal easy parenting.
This space right here is my sanctuary every morning when I get to sit and soak in that His mercies are new every day.
See, lately, I have been working on something that I'm finding is literally changing me little by little. However, I have never been a patient person. Like most people I love instant gratification. I hate going through the hard and days of "no fruit" even though I know it leads to green grass, grace, and fulfillment. I find so many parallels in this space.
I know you've heard a million times about caring for flowers, plants, pruning, cultivating. But it couldn't be more true for me in this space. Truth-I've has a hard time keeping plants alive. I want to buy them full and beautiful and then do nothing to maintain their beauty. Most of my flowers have been knocked out by hail and or almost killed from no water or sun.
Until I decided to care for this space like it was my sanctuary.
Cutting back flowers, losing rose petals that were once beautiful. Painful for this inpatient girl! But slowly, I started learning about how to care for them.
Then one morning I find myself sitting in peace, noticing the growth, the green, the long growing leaves, and finally blooms again.
It makes me weep! Sounds so silly! But this is me! I have made a decision every morning right when I wake, to choose joy no matter what. Do I mess up and get angry?! Yep! Do I go back to that decision I made at 6:00 am? Yep! Over and over again, this decision to choose joy even in the hard is changing me!
My boy, who has so much hurt in his heart is changing who I am! But I had to make a decision and make that decision a thousand times a day. To see the fruit, the blooms, the beauty starting to appear makes the pruning and the waiting worth every minute. Sometimes I have to cut it back and it seems like I'm starting over, but knowing the results will be more fullness from that step back, keeps me going.
Tempura Avocado at Pickled Fred in Shoreditch, London - never had this dish before and it was so tasty! This pan-Asian restaurant has quite a few vegan items on their menu, all clearly labelled and exciting to try.
So glad that my patrons have returned! I was so "on edge", so I read this awesome book to learn more about #anxiety while they were away.
Peterson’s book is not just a story of her own anxiety, but a fascinating look at the neuroscience, genetic and environmental risk factors, research and treatment approaches that often confound the diagnosis of anxiety.
There's no quick fix, but it became obvious to me that Life Skills can help to make life with anxiety possible.
