And now, the end is near
And so I face the final curtain
My friend, I'll say it clear
I'll state my case, of which I'm certain
I've lived a life that's full
I've traveled each and every highway
But more, much more than this
I did it my way
Regrets, I've had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption
I planned each charted course
Each careful step along the byway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way
Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all, when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out
I faced it all and I stood tall
And did it my way
I've loved, I've laughed and cried
I've had my fill my share of losing
And now, as tears subside
I find it all so amusing
To think I did all that
And may I say - not in a shy way
Oh no, oh no, not me
I did it my way
For what is a man, what has he got
If not himself, then he has naught
To say the things he truly feels
And not the words of one who kneels
The record shows I took the blows
And did it my way
Yes, it was my way

MAY 16, 1990: Frank lost a close friend when Sammy Davis Jr. died of throat cancer at the age of 64. Although he canceled the remaining four nights of his sold-out Radio City Music Hall concerts, while he was performing on stage he kept his emotions to himself as his friend lay dying in Los Angeles. He said, "I wish the world could have known Sam as I did. Sam never gave less than 100 percent when he was on stage, and he gave even more to those of us lucky enough to call him a friend. He was a class act, and I will miss him forever."
Sammy on a heart warming story of his life long friend, #FrankSinatra “When I lost my eye in a car accident, the first place I went–because I had no place to go except the hotel room I was living in then–was to Palm Springs, to Frank. You can have a tendency, at a time like that, for self-pity: ‘Oh, what am I going to do?’ He cut it off by making me laugh. The jokes started when I was in the hospital and they continue today: An eye chart with an inscription: “To Smokey. Practice. Practice.” (He calls me Smokey because I smoke so much.) A gift: half a pair of binoculars, with the other half sawed off for Jilly Rizzo, whose bad eye is on the opposite side. The card: “You guys should get together.” The only thing Sinatra ever said of a serious nature was, “Don’t worry about nothing”–and that’s the umbrella. “
Such a great gig tonight with the Rat Pack Show! The guys are a swap for the originals! Got to play at the very cool old iconic ‘Hotel del Coranado’! The band kicked butt! One of my fav places to holiday down here!
🎹 “The man at the baby grand - cadaverously pale and thin, with a thick head of straight greasy hair, pointed shoulders, and long, spidery fingers darting over the keys - had a hauntingly spare technique, with rich sonorities tossed off like afterthoughts. And amazingly, he swung. “How’d you like to work with me, kid?” Sinatra asked. (Bill) Miller, who was almost a year older than Sinatra, pursed his lips, then nodded. “Okay,” he said. 🎹
