Yesterday was Women’s Dive Day 2018... it’s been 14 years since I did my #padi training at @unexsograndbahama and I’m no less in love with diving now than I was then. Living in Belize and working there and in Turks & Caicos for a couple of years meant I got to reconnect with the underwater world, albeit far less than I should have done. It’s changed a lot down there in 14 years and seeing those changes has made me rethink my environmental responsibilities massively. I’m currently on a mission to remove all single use plastic from my life, and even to try and remove 90% of ALL plastic from my life before the end of 2019. It’s a surprisingly huge undertaking and is meaning I’m having to rethink everything from food to face wash. I’m also currently on a no fish/no meat diet - though being paleo means I will bring them back but perhaps only a couple of times a week. Diving for me is hugely enjoyable but it also represents a learning opportunity and is a humbling experience where, just for a little while, you get to be a part of something that is far bigger and far more important than you. I can’t wait to head back to Belize later this year and get back in the water once again 💙 #journeywithclara#womensdiveday
📷@daniel_botelho_photography - The first time a blue marlin was documented hunting for food 🙌 I was by myself underwater trying to be very quiet when I saw from the distance a beaked fish approaching...when it came closer I could figure out it was a huge marlin and capturing his behavior was mind blowing! After some days and talking to beak fish researchers I found something even more special that the sequence I got was the first ever of a blue marlin in full action
📷@latashia_thilldw - Final moments of a Penguin Life :( as a Leopard Seal closes in for it lunch at Antartica. These 1000 lb Leopard seals have a reputation for being aggressive, yet those that have been in the water with them describe them as gentle, curious creatures. Unless you’re a penguin of course.
Leopard seals are ferocious hunters and lie in wait for the penguins. Their attack is merciless and the predators have been known to shake the penguins back and forth so vigorously that they seemingly turn the chicks inside out. They have also been known to attack and feed on Sharks such as the Blue Sharks (To give perspective, Blue Sharks measure around 2.5m in length)… Google has some amazing photos of Leopard Seals attacking sharks, but they were too gruesome to share.. Interested people, with strong stomachs checkout the results from the Dailymail.co.uk.
