Q&A: I got this note in my inbox the other day, so I want to address it with everyone. "Jackie, what do Magazine Editors look for when deciding whether or not to run your story?"
One word: They want something NEW.
They want their readers to get something FRESH. NEW. DIFFERENT. RELEVANT.
And they want to be the one bringing that story to the table.
In order to give them this, we need your NARRATIVE to be spot-on. A.K.A. Why should people care? What's different about you?
Do you give to charity?
Do you hire minorities?
Do you have a breakthrough technology?
Are you a tastemaker?
Did you overcome incredible odds in starting your business?
This is what we need to put together - your NARRATIVE. And not only that. We then need a story ANGLE to pitch that is relevant to the season. Is it timely?
Are you offering Fourth of July cocktail ideas?
Are you the #1 Back to School essential?
Are you the jewelry to wear with the perfect summer dress?
The right narrative + a great story angle is the secret sauce to EVERYTHING. 😉
