As early as the 14th century, Myanmar people have been wearing thanaka on their faces for beauty and sun protection. It’s made by grinding the wood, bark or root of the thanaka tree with water on a circular slate slab called kyauk pyin. It’s such a distinctive part of Myanmar culture and on a couple of occasions, local women have painted my face with it too.
The last few years my birthday was a solo adventure. 2016 - Holland - Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague
2017 - Central California coast road trip - Jalama state beach - Santa Barbara - coastline
2018 - Had to step up my game some, camped in Death Valley then spent a few days in Las Vegas with family

Today's #solatraveltip comes from Sola Traveler @ashleytscn 💛💛💛
"Today I’m addressing one of the most common questions I get when people ask about solo travel: SAFETY AS A SOLA TRAVELER // Upon hearing the horrible news of the death of a young woman on the first week of her first sola trip I was both upset at the news but also at the reactions of people blaming it on her decision to travel sola. Given that I so strongly advocate for sola travel, I think it is extremely important to address this. I am a firm believer that crime can happen in ANY place in the world, but there are definitely ways to mitigate risks while traveling sola. ☝🏽 Head to the link in the bio to read my top 10 tips to minimize your safety risks while traveling sola (you may be surprised at a couple of them!)" - @ashleytscn .
Thank you so much for sharing your tips with our community!!!! 💛💛 #solatraveltips
