The Hooker Valley Track is an easy 5k out-and-back walk, with some incredible rewards. If you catch her on a good day, New Zealand’s tallest peak (Aoraki/Mt. Cook) will steal your breath away.
Current tahr management frame work and permitted helicopter operation times, and scroll to see DOC's "tahr solution", as presented to the NZDA 70th Conference by Minister of Conservation, Eugene Sage, last Friday. This involves total search and destroy all year round, helicopters in wilderness areas, until the tahr herd is "percieved" to be back within the parameters of the 1993 "Tahr Control Plan", i.e. within the boundaries and below 10,000 head. Now we all know the facts. Time to join your local NZDA branch so they can advocate from a stronger membership base, and stronger voice. I'm sure none of the younger hunters remember the 70s and 80s, nor fought for the 90s tahr control plan. Well, if you want to hunt the majestic tahr don't be an apathetic Millennial or Gen-Y...hash-tagging, liking, sharing, and commenting does nothing, you need face to face meetings and a large membership base at the NZDA. If you dont want to join the NZDA then please consider lobbying DOC personally/directly or via any other organisations you are a member of. I'm not on the NZDA committee!
