"Back To Basics" and finding your story! The story prompt challenge.
The other day I was asked to do a timelapse of one of my sessions when sketching outside the studio. So I thought I would take yesterdays lunchtime break to do a timelapse of my next exercise. As story artists and writers alike, We all struggle when it comes to finding new ideas to write about, whether its for a short story, a comic, or maybe, a new script perhaps. Whether you are an artist, a writer or just an enthusiast of both, this exercise can help aritsts and non-artists break through those creative blocks.
The whole point of why I do this is to get your mind thinking in a different light. It forces me to be observant of my surroundings as I document what I see. Whether its visual sketching, writing or maybe both, I think this story exercise might be one avenue worth exploring.
To do this, I sat down at Kaffeeklatsch Seattle and took 52 minutes (to be precise) to video document my time sketching. Allowing whatever time to be completely spontaneious.
I Hope you enjoy what you see and if you find this helpful, share with a friend and I'll see you back here soon!

Close your eyes and count to three.
Say my name.
Make a wish.
Blow me away.
Scatter me in the wind.
Do you remember when we used to make wishes on shooting stars at midnight? And the promises made on dandelions before we blew them away together?
As we walk barefoot through the meadows on a summer evening I smile and point towards a host of dandelions. I hear you saying "They are weeds. Pick a rose instead."
I move forward, kneel down and still choose one of those dandelions. I wonder why you couldn't see the beauty in them.
I might not have been as bright as those red roses you had set your eyes on. I was different and beautiful in my own little ways. If only you could see that I was a dandelion.
The dandelion, she was born to be free and wild. She grows and thrives in lands where others might wither away. She rises up with the wind, carrying prayers, hopes and dreams. Spreading life.
And once you lose her, she may never be yours to wish upon again. But your eyes might still trace her curves in the sky and your lips might just be able to taste her smile. Listen and you might hear her laughter among the whispers among the breezes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Finally it dawns on you that this myriad of dandelions were never weeds but a lifetime of wishes.
Ah, funny isn't it? Darling you just blew me away.
