"Revisiting Snoke" from The Last Jedi // Composed by John Williams
As requested by: @eburke077
In this excerpt from "Revsisiting Snoke", we first hear an appearance of Kylo Ren's theme, and although we only have 2 movies to go off of so far, Ren's theme seems to carry duel meaning, just as "Imperial March" does. The less grand the motif, the more introspective the music is in regards to Kylo Ren. This of course then transitions perfectly into the second appearance in the Sequel Trilogy of Vader's theme. Like Ren's theme, Vader's theme appears in a dark and menacing manner, taking on an introspective meaning as Snoke compared Kylo Ren to Darth Vader and touching on Ren's position as a Dark Side user and his familial history. The connection between Ben Solo/Kylo Ren and Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader is quite interesting to me. Up until "The Last Jedi", they had largely paralleled each other, but one key difference in their stories intrigues me. When Anakin killed the Emperor, he sacrificed himself in the process. However, Kylo Ren obviously did not die when he killed Snoke, which puts Anakin and Ben in very different positions. Had Anakin lived, he technically would have assumed control of the Empire, though it's impossible to know what he would have done when handed that power. Kylo Ren CHOSE to take that power and continue leading the First Order, which greatly diverges him from the parallels he and Anakin shared. I am EXTREMELY excited to see where Ep. IX goes with this, and to see how the story concludes!
