Our first time hiking deep in the trails without the babes! It was just what I needed! I didn’t realize how much nature completed me ‘til it was missing! Thanks to Nana for watching the boys! #nature#hikes#trail#puremichigan 🌿
We've made it out of the backcountry! We squeezed in one last backpacking trip to see the Cirque of the Towers in the southern most portion of the Wind River Range. We did a quick three day, two night backpack with the cirques as our final destination. Keep your eyes out for a post on our route and suggestions-- it's INCREDIBLE there.
Up next is @keystone_resort's Mountain Town Music Festival. Come see us Saturday in Keystone for our last Colorado hurrah!
Happiness is on the back of a horse...when I’m not with sawyer. Hopefully one day soon he can ride along too. I hate how the world works a lot of times, it ain’t always fair and doesn’t make sense...most of the time no one gets it till it happens to them, even active duty guys that haven’t gotten out and had to be surrounded by a bunch of people who don’t have any idea what you did, especially when you did something most of the military doesn’t even know about. A lot of rangers and combat veterans have a hard time or don’t get to see their kids cus it’s easy to say they are crazy and for a woman to cry and people believe it cus well...we used to shoot bad guys, and the way we talk about it scares people. Also because of all those weaklings that went over and came back crying about how they had to fight while they get drunk trying to get attention, people think you won’t know the difference between bad guys and good guys. Little do they know your job every night and day was to make sure you didn’t hurt the wrong people or you’d get in trouble...so back home it’s funny how soldiers get held down by the stigma of being unhinged or a danger to people. When usually they act like any man should act defending themselves or things they love, but they are held to a higher standard and usually that means handcuffs. There’s veterans all over who have this happening to them and the only reason it does is because society lets people do it to them. I can’t do anything about it, doesn’t seem like other guys can either...so I get out into the country away from people and ride horses. Anyone else out there that wants to ride horses and get away from people that don’t get it and wanna use your service against you, just message me. I got plenty of room up here in these mountains and an extra seat in my tractor...the farm is veteran friendly! #america#veteran#horse#trail#nature#river#water#mountains#cowboy#happiness#life
Did y’all know I like hiking? I believe strongly that all people should have the opportunity to connect with nature, and hiking is one of my favorite ways to do that. I know, though, that hiking culture can sometimes feel elitist or inaccessible, so I just wanted to get super clear with some of the basics so I wrote a blog post about it! Hopefully taking the guesswork out of hiking encourages you to find a trail and get outside. ✨
My blog post with 13 tips for beginning hikers is live on kellyinoregon.com!! ✨
Last night as I drove up Guardsmen pass I was pleasantly surprised to see the smoked had cleared out a little bit. The wildfires have impacted so many places this summer, it’s important to know where fires are allowed and how to properly put them out. So remember be responsible every time. 🙏🏻
