We're happy to announce that drummer extraordinaire David Palmer (Rod Stewart, Duran Duran, ABC) has joined the Vanguard family! After hearing our V13 Tube and V44S Stereo microphones on Dan Bailey's (@drichardbailey) recordings, David reached out to us and wanted a set of his own. Here's what he had to say about them:
"I’ve finally found my drum sound with a pair of V13s and a Stereo V44S. The mics have amazing clarity and detail ..They sound impeccable in my room!"
Thanks, David! If anyone is out in Las Vegas, catch David playing with Rod Stewart at Caesar's Palace starting on June 12!
Our great friend Eric Meyer at The Noiz Faktory recording studio in Georgetown, TX with one of his Vanguard V13s. Eric owns a pair of our first-run V13s. "The V13 to me is what you get when you cross an original C12 with a ELA M 251. I have used it on a variety of sources ranging from vocals to acoustic instruments and it delivers the goods every time! The mic is so good - that's why I have a stereo pair." Check out his studio and book with him at thenoizfaktory.com and @thenoizfaktory! He has an incredible space and an awesome selection of gear, and the balcony photo is a grand tradition for every artist that records there.
One of our favorite things is hearing music made with our microphones. That's why we do this, after all! If you ever have tracks you'd like to brighten our day with, send us a link anytime! And if you have any questions about our gear, give us a holler - 909 920 5600 or [email protected] Have a great Monday, folks, and go make some music! -DEREK
4x Latin Grammy-winning Engineer Boris Milan (@borism) has been getting a ton of mileage out of his Vanguard #V13 Tube Condenser microphone. Here's a shot of his V13 tracking the dulcet tones of artist Ricardo Malfatti. Check out his profile to see what he's been working on!
#repost@borism Por el estudio nos visitó @rmalfatti grabando voces para un proyecto especial que muy pronto escucharan. Gracias Ricardo por tu visita y buena energía.
Okay I did it, I changed the tube. I'm posting this for any of you who are a little techy/geeky like me. I've never serviced any other tube mic, but this one (Groove Tubes MD-2) was actually quite easy to work with. Just remove two little screws at the bottom with an Allen wrench and the case just slips off. Then you replace the tube. Just be careful and gentle with it, since it's a vintage mic and it's almost impossible to find a replacement should you break it. It's not a very well known mic, but every vocalist that ever recorded with it absolutely loves it, including me ☺

Wonderful day in the studio with @tanneradamray. Wonderful people and our first video project in the space, hence the eye steering lights!
Latin Grammy-winning engineer Boris Milan with our V13 Tube Condenser. Thanks, Boris! (There’s a reason we use turbojet engine o-rings for our shockmounts instead of cheap elastic hairbands - because the stuff that holds up your underwear should NOT be holding up your microphone! )
#repost@borism This is Service. The guys at @vanguardaudiolabs heard that I needed a O-ring replacement for my Vanguard V13 mic stand shockmount and they sent me right away these hi quality O-rings free of charge, when you buy gear you buy into a brand, is more than just the physical item you receive, is the brand that supports that item. I love and support a brand that stands for its products and Vanguard so far have been amazing. Thanks.
The beating heart of any microphone is the capsule. Without a good capsule, no amount of NOS components or magic preamps will make a microphone sound good. ---
Pictured is one of the 3-micron gold-sputtered Mylar diaphragms from a custom-voiced Vanguard #V13 capsule. We work hard to ensure that every V13 capsule is closely matched to our reference capsule. Sometimes that means tearing down prototype capsules and making them into awesome Christmas tree ornaments 🎄🎅🏻
