Behind the sheds
I am a neat freak. It drives my family nuts as I am always cleaning and organising things. I like everything to have a set place and for it to be ordered.
With that being said, our yards are far from that. They are filled with tractors, headers, balers, silos and the list goes on. When I look at it I want to scream as it’s all jumbled up.
But wait, it gets worse. When you take a look behind the sheds it’s like a massive graveyard full of countless unwanted treasures. I can’t even identify some of the things as they are either rusted out and/or hidden under long grass. However, I am rather fond of the old Massey Ferguson header. If you ever find yourself on someone’s property, take a sneaky look behind their sheds as you never know what you will find.
Our “Pick My Project” proposal is the Creation of a Public Artworks Collection to Revitalise Mooroolbark!
Made especially for our township, the local community will be invited to share ideas and participate in selecting artworks that they feel work best in each location. Possibilities include large-scale street art, trails of miniature artworks, playful gathering spaces and collaborative pavement art.
Providing a significant contribution to the process of renewal and revitalisation of our precinct, artists will create works that take into account our concerns, needs and aspirations. A mix of both commissioned pieces and works created in collaboration with the community will become part of our streetscape, accessible for visitors and residents to enjoy.
Mooroolbark has enormous potential and a large, active community. However, its infrastructure has suffered from neglect, vandalism, a lack of resources and investment. This project will increase business, strengthen our local economy, actualise the potential of existing assets and infrastructure, foster a sense of wellbeing, pride of place, identity and belonging. It will provide opportunities to connect and care for each other, create a more vibrant, beautiful and active community hub. Benefiting local residents, shopkeepers, visitors and commuters, let’s get together and plan, design and create something new and exciting in our hometown!

It is unclear when exactly the celebration of the New Year began in China. Its celebration is said to have originated from the year end religious ceremony observed during the Shang Dynasty (1766 BC - 1122 BC). Some believe that the practice began as early as the period of Emperor Yao and Shun's (~2300 BC) reigns.
