For every time I was told to change my platform, or that it was “too sad”, or “no one wants to listen to someone talk about dying children, especially for a year.” Who exactly is it too sad for? You and me? Or the mother losing her 7 year old son? If you see nothing but the grief, you are missing the beauty. We cannot, as much as we would give anything to do, extend the life of these children. , BUT we can pack so much life into the time we have left with them. So much laughter. So much peace.
No one wants to talk about dying children? The word dying implies “not dead”, therefore we are still talking about living children. They matter. Every minute of their lives matter. I will continue to be LOUDER than the silence.
Change my platform? I will not be yet another person who succumbs to the weight of bearing this advocacy. Because so many people have walked away, the number of us carrying this cross is few and far between. “Take up the cross and follow me.”
Jesus commands us to deny ourselves and take up the cross and follow Him if we want to be amongst him as a follower. What He’s asking is for us to get uncomfortable with our particular crosses, bear the weight, and get over our egos, our fears, our discomfort, and ultimately ourselves.
Anything worth doing requires discomfort.
Discomfort breeds growth.
Let’s get “uncomfortable”, so our families can have moments of comfort.
