After a week of only running on the elliptical, this morning was a test to see how the plantar fascia was gonna hold up. It still bothers me, but not enough to keep me from running. The bigger problem this morning was the damn heat! It was 75 degrees when I started, just as the sun was about to rise. It was supposed to be 7 miles at race pace, but it turned out to be just under 7 miles overall. I did a 5 minute warm-up, and managed to keep my pace around 8:30 for the next 5 miles, but then I was just out of gas. I can't be too down about the run though. I didn't think too much about my foot during the run, and I can walk around the house without limping! Tomorrow, I'll be testing it further, with a 10 mile slow run. I feel optimistic.
I AM NO MACHINE...
Just spent the last 4 days in a living hell. My kids got sick earlier this week and what usually happens is I end up catching the virus but then dispose of quickly by. I am generally very robust and hardly ever get properly sick.
Well, not this time. This was the most sick I've ever been. I had every symptom from fever, severe coughing, headache, body aches, nausea etc. All in very acute form. I felt like death. Literally. I wanted to just end it all. Sounds dramatic I know but I am just not used to being sick and my tolerance for it is super low. It's how I honestly felt. (have any of you felt this sick before?)
What I hated the most was feeling so disconnected from myself. My thoughts were mirroring how my body felt too and were therefore all negative. On top of this, I had hardly any sleep during this period and barely ate food. I was a mess.
Obviously did no running and its definitely a set back for my marathon training. I pride myself on consistency and with a week off (unheard of for me) and likely more (as I'm still a wreck), I'm looking at 3 weeks of interrupted running in what should be my peak weeks. Will evaluate where I am at the end of next week. No need to mince words, it's a real blow. Can't help but feel my training load made me more susceptible to this but I do know it is a serious flu as my family are also feeling it. I also know I haven't been pushing myself anymore than what I've done over a year (ie gradual incremental changes).
Just thought I'd update you all. Yes this machine has had a breakdown. 😞
P.s thank you so much to all that messaged me to see how I was going. It meant alot.🙏💕
Foto: @maxkooijmans
