Breathe in strength, breathe out weakness. 🌬💪🏼 You can do hard things! 10 miles for today! 6 stroller miles this morning and 4 treadmill miles tonight. It was another hot day with a real feel of 98 during my morning run. Is it fall yet? 🍂 I’m ready for pumpkin spice everything. 👏🏼
Running update, it’s been a while. Between starting a new job and moving, I chose to spend my spare time in WA with friends and family - to the detriment of marathon training. I’ve decided to defer my entry to 2019. To those that have donated. First and foremost, THANK YOU. Second, the money I’ve raised this year guarantees my entry to the race next year. This gives me 446 days to work on getting faster and setting a marathon PR instead of just finishing.

Body: Nah, let’s just keep laying here watching Netflix.
Mind: Gotta get up now.
Body: Fine. But I promise I will make this the longest 90 minutes of your life. I’ll make you feel like a baby elephant and your legs feel like they weigh 200lbs each.
Mind: .....at least it’s pretty out here
4 miles today on the struggle bus. Oh it was a tough day. I got all in my head. On the up side, that's the farthest I've ran all summer. This heat is a killer for me. On the downside, I had to rest and walk a few times after mile 2. I was hot. I was tired. I was having bladder issues due to #diastasisrecti. Slight pains. My headphones were driving me crazy and not staying in all the way. It was just one of those days. BUT, I got through it and came home and finally set up a doctor appointment to see if I can figure out a better soloution with my diastasis. It's so frustrating some days.
WHY I ONLY RUN 5 TIMES A WEEK- & IT WORKS FOR ME🙌🏽
Hi guys!!!! 👋🏽I have mentioned before that my current schedule is just running 5 times a week. “Just” because back in 2015- I was running everyday and doubling many days to get to 80 miles a week. After my overtraining stint, I didn’t know how to get out of that hole- but I knew that LESS WAS MORE for me then.
I limited myself to 5️⃣ runs a week. And I have stayed to that limit or the last 2.5 years because it’s been working. I’ve kept my volume relatively low too. I stayed around 50 miles last year and maxed out at 60. This year I’ve been around 45 miles a week.
👉🏽Here’s why it works for me!
⚡️Right now I’m trying to find new speed & make big leaps in progress. I am doing 2 speed workouts a week & doing anywhere from 4-6 miles of work in them. I have to balance the intensity & the volume of the workload. I choose to focus on the intensity (finding new speed)- and with that I have to back off on the volume so that my body has the chance to recover and come back up to the top by my next speed session.
⚡️If I pummeled my body with a high volume in addition to the intensity - then it would put me back in the same position I was in before Boston, right now, I would drown under that type of workload.
⚡️We aren’t superhuman. & every single body is different. The worst thing you can do is compare your training to someone else’s. Everyone can handle things differently. I love seeing my friends who do amazing at handling intensity + volume. I hope to one day get there. But today, I’m content with reaching for new levels of speed- and one day add that strength building volume to the mix.
⚡️If you’re still building the foundation- don’t overwhelm yourself with volume + intensity all at once. Choose a focus. I remember my friend @sabina_piras was one of the first people that told me you could get fast on not a ton of miles. That was so helpful since I used to think of mileage was the only way to get faster. So just know- there’s no one size fits all. Be open to figuring out the formula that works best for you.

As promised my thoughts on @humagel 🤗 This review is only going to be based on taste since I've only tried it this one time I don't feel it's fair to review (yet) the energy I did or did not receive from it.
So my first impression of this when I tasted it was you're either going to love it or not like it at all. I personally like it a lot! Folks it IS a gel but not super thick like GU or Clif shots a little easier to get down and not like trying to swallow a mouthful of Elmer's Glue.
The flavor was sweet BUT not the kind of sweet that you would get from the basic type gels but rather in a dried fruit kinda way. The flavor is hard to explain but to me tasted like real food as per the ingredients listed. Very similar to a pressed fruit bar if you've ever had one & definitely not artificial tasting whatsoever. It was pleasant to me & like I said you're either going to like it or you're not going to like it 🤷🏼♀️I love the simple ingredients in these gels and I like the flavor👌
