In this square of Vlorë, on the 28th of November 1912, the first Albanian flag was raised as an act of independence from Turkey, after 500 years of domination. The first Albanian government was born with Ismail Qemali as prime minister.
This picture reminds me of the communist era, with the ladies in uniform cleaning thoroughly the square under the shadow of a majestic nationalist statue.
